McConnell Macro Video Synthesis System

Here is something you don't see every day a Amiga Video Toaster/ Atari Falcon based video synthesizer with multiple other signal paths going on, thanks to Matthew McConnell for the upload!http://www.tecterran.com/sonovista  Not your standard analogue set up and much closer to systems from the mid 90s

Stakker

Mark McClean and Colin Scott Originally collaborated as Stakker producing innovative live visuals and produced various VHS releases and music videos such as the ground braking Eurotechno (1989) and The Evil Acid Baron Show (1988) . There visuals are full of strange 3D landscapes that are reminiscent of early CG  films produced by american companies such as Pacific Data Images and image processing straight form the Fiarlight CVI, the fast cutting and break neck speed at which new visual elements are introduced helped pave the way for what would become the standard style for live VJing and the visual accompaniment to underground electronic music for the next 15 years. Mark and Colin appear to have stopped working together after the release of Eurotechno. However Part of the sound track  was produced and released as a single to great acclaim by soon to be Future Sounds of London member Brian Dougans, Mark McClean went on to produce most of the visuals and artwork for Future Sounds of London including there seminal album Lifeforms. There is very little information available on line as to what became of Mark, Colin or their early influential collaboration. Stakker is credited with the 1995 Aphex Twin sound tracked Westworld VHS so they may have had a much longer working relationship than is described on-line. Mark's work for FSOL is credited as Buggy G Riphead and FSOL have some fantastic videos possibly produced by Mark and collaborators.

I really like the graphics that accompany Glass on the Teachings From The Electronic Brain video

Ian Andrews

Ian Andrews has a great site detailing his multimedia work here  but he also has some great info on Subvertigo a VJ/video art collective started by Ian, John Jacobs and Marco Fante  here  (also see skynoise for more info)

I really recommend reading the interviews and ideas on the Subvertigo but as always the technology caught my eye including the Arlunya VPS210

I think I already posted this a while back but it can't hurt to do it again

The Arduino Eye Shield

The Arduino Eye Shield by David Chatting is a circuit board that can be plugged on top of the Arduino allowing it to interpret analogue video (PAL or NTSC) from a camera or other source. It gives the Arduino the power of sight. I can see allot of potential for interesting live video manipulation here!

Sansui AV-77

The Sansui AV-77 is a fairly common AV unit that has a few video effects and some useful video features. picked up a unit in perfect condition the other day and had to look to see what I could find on the net www.audioinfo.net has some useful info and some screen shots of the device in action

while this unit has some cool retro colorizing effects I would not advise it as your first or only effects unit purchase. I also would not advise buying one with a view to circuit bending due to the fact it runs off an internal transformer so there are mains voltages running inside YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Where this unit comes in to its own is as a source switch (that also contains a few effects). I plan to use mine with a few of my other old bits of video gear (before going to one channel of my mixer).

Crayola My First Electronic Coloring Book

So this is the Crayola My First Electronic Coloring Book
It outputs composite video and if you can find one
it will only set you back a few dollars
(I think its only available state side)

good start for video circuit bending

heres a video of Madnoodler's bent Crayola

Introduction

I hope this blog will promote and encourage discourse amongst artists using hands on video techniques

I hope this blog will cover a wide range of related subjects including video art, video synthesis , audio reactive video, video circuit building, drawn sound, visual music, video feedback, VJing, experimental film, video effects and more.
