"In Telematic Etra Session #2, Bill Etra narrates a history of tools and instruments created for real time visual performances. Bill has pursued the creation of a "visual piano" and a language for the scoring of visualization compositions for over 4 decades. Along the way he co-invented many devices and techniques, most famously the Rutt/Etra Video Synthesizer. In Telematic Etra 2, Bill will lecture about his and others' inventions and respond to questions from a remote audience via webchat.

Benton-C Bainbridge with Minou Maguna and Bill Etra: Telematic Etra is a series of video chat room discussions with Bill Etra about his lifelong pursuit of “total plasticity of the moving image.” Etra is best known as the co inventor of the Rutt/Etra Video Synthesizer. He has also created other milestone art works, pivotal patents, and collaborations with artists ranging from Steina and Woody Vasulka to Francis Ford Coppola.
Etra’s congenital spinal stenosis has immobilized him and he is rarely able to leave his apartment in the Bronx. Telematic Etra will enable Etra to reach out and educate and inspire the next wave of Visual Music composers, performers, critics and academics. Each session will include both a lecture and a Q&A section, to maximize interaction.

Minou Maguna lives and works in Buenos Aires. Art director and stage direcrot of multimedia performance, exploring new modes of interaction between humans, machines, algorithms and the environment to create art and the poetic. In recent years Maguna has co-created performances of music, opera and experimental musical theater in Argentina and New York, London, Berlin, Rome, Singapore, Brazil, Colombia and Peru.

Benton-C Bainbridge is an artist, designer and educator based in the Bronx. Bainbridge makes movies, installations, and live visual performances with custom digital, analog and optical systems of his own design. He has presented video as immersive environments and extemporaneous compositions across 5 continents, collaborating with scores of artists around the world.

"Synthetic Divinity was a St. Louis cable television show in 1994-1996. It was abstract, surreal, science fiction video art created by Tory, Enero, and Bruce Wulff. Sasha Feline was in part of this. Other friends and members of neXtrAdio helped and the soundtrack was always created by neXtrAdio. The muzik was usually from the live improvisations that took place on Tory's KDHX radio show, Nocturnal Designs. Doc Mabuse, Tom Sutter, Perry Emge were in the band and helped with filming, acting and ideas."

Mo-Dettes - White Mice

Here is a great video from 1979 using the video studio at LCC, I know for a fact LCC had a Videokalos  although this could have been another piece of equipment, What really makes it for me are the really 3D feedback effects with a very judicious use of lighting or keying to maximise the spatial qualities.

Doron Abrahami

There is not much info online, Abrahami is quoted in this classic David Hall article here http://www.luxonline.org.uk/articles/video_report(1).html although David dosn't seem to like synthetic work much :/

Philip Baljeu

Philip Baljeu has been working on some interesting VGA video synthesizer designs, he has some video effects designs too and a whole host of cool projects over on his site http://ruinelectronics.com/ . He is working on a revised version now which sounds like it will be more advanced.

TV Oscilloscope Adaptor

This is an adapter attached to a TV set. This machine changes a TV to a Oscilloscope. See the photo! This photo indicates a sine wave 50mV 120Hz. See the circuit! Free oscillater makes an 15kHz pulse signal (A). This signal is amplified by an buffer AMP. On the other hand , an amplifier makes 300 times of input signal. And it is shifted to 6V center. A comparater compares a voltage (C) and (B). this comparater makes an pulse width modulated signal on (D) point. Differencial circuit makes a small pulse on the changing timing of the pulse. Buffer receives two signals ,(A) and (E). Therefore it is called as an adder. This machine is able to indicates only 60Hz or 120Hz or 180Hz

Laser Shows

I have long been interested in laser shows since reading about them in various books like Expanded Cinema and Ron's great books and work, the visuals apparently float in space when performed in pitch black planetariums and other dome like structures. This frees the drawn video image from the tyranny of standard aspect ratios and hints at infinity. There seems to still be a few real laser shows left in the world and there are some amazing visuals on the web that almost capture how cool they might be live.

The Ionic  company was an EMS American distributor for a time until it cloned the VCS3 and keyboard in to a single unit of it's own "design", it had some relatively interesting ideas about marketing, one of it's other products looks to have been a modified TV that acted like a simple oscilloscope a project common on the web these days and a technique utilized from the late 60s in to the early 70s by Paik amongst others.

William Stuart Systems Videograph

Interesting advert for a William Stuart Systems Videograph, a DIY visualizer kit that displays sound in colour. I have seen many of this type of circuit but not that many in colour. William Stuart Systems seem to have produced a lot of interesting peripherals for the ZX Spectrum,  if anyone has an unbuilt kit laying around or knows where I can pick one up let me know ;)
